Our History is Our Story

From the indigenous lands of Kiskeya (modern day Dominican Republic) to the indigenous lands of Harrisburg, PA. I come from a lineage of herbal healers. Starting with my Great Grandmother, Dona Juana Peralta, descended from Tainos was known as a curandera (healer) in her town of Pueblo Nuevo, RD. By day, she would cook elaborate meals for the well off. By night, she would take whatever scraps she could and make medicine for those that lived in the barrio. A massive woman who was only 5'5 but her presence made seem like she was 6ft tall. Through her, my days of herbalism began at a very tender age. From caring for the food she grew in her own backyard, that very same art of nurturing sustenance from seed, nursed a budding herbalist in the making.

Her daughter, Dona Auristela Marte de Peralta was a mother of 12 children. While being a mother, she lost 3 of her kids to illnesses when they were still very young. Her strength in her faith, was the only thing that kept her going. She became a traveling nurse and was blessed with healing hands. It was known that once she laid hands on you, your ailments were instantly cured.  Now, I know that may seem farfetched to many. But when you are raised in between worlds, this is something that becomes the norm.

I walk with ancestors great and small. I was bestowed with the gift of healing that has been passed down through healing bloodlines. In having been blessed as I have, it was only natural to finally come into myself and pursue the art of spiritual herbalism. While studying under the tutelage of Karen Rose of Sacred Vibes Apothecary, I have began the journey of remembering who I am to be in this lifetime.

So come along and explore a world that can defy the odds of many. That takes science and spirit and blends them together to heal the whole of a person. Western ideologies have disconnected us from our birthright to living a life free of chronic illness whether it be physical, emotional or spiritual.
